Accord Europe by Sapiento Accord Europe by Sapiento
Premise: the 6 February 1934 crisis in France is more severe and the right wing movements together with sympathizing parts of the army topple the government of the Third Republic. A double leadership of François de La Rocque and Charles Maurras is now at the top of the state. The initially hostile position against Germany is resolved, when France, Germany and Italy sign the European Accord in spring 1936. Then the three begin to carve the neighboring states.
The United Kingdom cannot do much about this. With France becoming the de facto leader of the fascist Accord, it has lost it's major continental ally.

My guess is, the invasion of Poland will be coming real soon. And with France a German ally, the British will be in no real position to intervene.

Wouldn't Portugal be technically Neutral because a: they did not sign the Anti-Comintern Pact (or would they have signed a French-led Pact?) and B: they still honoured the 1386 Treaty of Windsor? (Or would they have broken that as well?)

Here they decided to join the apparently stronger side.

What would Poland's position be? Maybe they would have flipped the board and sighted a mutual defense pact with the soviets out of pure, cold, retched, fear... My guess...

Good question. Giving the combined military strength of the Accord powers it would probably be smarter to ally with them instead of the SU - and Poland joining voluntarily an alliance with the SU is nearly impossible.

Poland joined the alliance with France. If, in 1934 France was tied with Germany that Poland would follow France. Never the Soviets.
Let us remember that in 1934 even before the death camps. Nobody could have guessed what Germany plans.

Very surprising ! Maurras is the most anti-German French thinker! In addition he was a monarchist and would have restored the monarchy (or the Count of Paris, who would become King Henry VI, was pro-English in my opinion) !

I'm surprised Maurras hasn't reinstalled the Orleanist monarchy.
Good map though.

Very well presented. A Franco-German fascist alliance is truly a force to be reckoned with. Is Italy still the embarrassingly incompetent third wheel it was in OTL? :D

I know that this is a one shot map, but could you give your opinion as to what would have happened next in this? do things break down when the three need to trade the populations of Alsace, Aosta Valley, South Tyrol, and other places?

Difficult to say.
I'd say the three have more in common than differences so a diplomatic solution should be able. There is still the option (or rather sure possibility) of war against the AF and the USSR, so at least an alliance of common sense should avoid any troubles between the three accord states.

Did Denmark join the Alliance because, being on the continent, it felt threatened by the Accord? The real time around, they were neutral...

Cool! I've never imagined France teaming up with Germany and Italy, but now that I look at it it's truly a mighty alliance! Good map too!

But I'm still wondering what happened to Poland and Bulgaria, why aren't they in any alliances. Bulgaria as I know it was an ally of Germany already in the First World War and even aided the Germans during the Invasion of Yugoslavia. Add to that their autocratic government and they'd fit perfectly into the Accord.

I'm also surprised that Poland hasn't joined any alliances, seeing as how exposed it is (right inbetween the Accord and the Soviets). It was an ally of Britain in WWII so it'd fit well into the Alliance, but considering its close relationship with the Baltic states, it could just as well be a member of the Entente.

Also, I guess Turkey would be pretty scared of the Soviets, just as it was in the real world. They'd most probably also be considering joining forces with somebody just to scare them off and that'd have some pretty interesting results, no matter which one. :)

Poland and Bulgaria are de jure neutral, but de facto both leaning are heavily leaning towards the Accord. The Poles are more afraid of/hating the Soviets than the Germans - and don't forget, the Poles and France always had good relations, the Germans wouldn't want to make troubles.
If war breaks out in this timeline with a much stronger anti-communist front Turkey might be more willing to declare war to the commies than it did in OTL.
